Solar water heater

I have been experimenting with pvc pipe to make a hot water system which can be used in summer. On a sunny 24 Degree Celsius day I was getting 60+ degrees Celsius through the pipes and the unit was thermo siphoning nicely too! I started with a sheet of 9mm marine ply onto which I glued some aluminium flashing

Tyre pounding with Mike

Tyre pounding is  hard   HARD   WORK! After I pounded my third tyre in Guatemala I started thinking... couldn't we just use bricks? Feeling a little disenchanted with the whole "let's recycle 600 car tyres" idea I suddenly found myself standing next to Mr Mike Reynolds and he was... you guessed it!  pounding a tyre.  Racking my brains to come up with something nonchalant to say to the Man, I  heard myself proclaim " I can't believe your'e still doing this shit".  to which he replied " I don't wanna do anything else, this is all I wanna do" . Well! what could I say to that!? So I picked up a sledgehammer and continued pounding with my Faith restored. I seem to have invented a device since that fateful day that might pound tyres a lot quicker and easier than the sledgehammer method, I have yet to do proper tests but all early results look favorable, oh and the machine is easy to make and run so, if successful could be available to ...

Tyre pounding machine trial

Pounding tyres is really hard work and it takes a lot of people to make steady progress so I started thinking about mechanical advantage and what machines could be used to make the work quicker and easier. Presenting the Recipro-Rammer! Reciprocating saw with custom mallet attachment for tyre pounding I have invented three different attachments for testing in the field this April (2014), if successful, I will be posting videos and pictures on how to make these attachments or they can be supplied by me. I aim to run three of these machines off of my 2 KW petrol generator but a cordless version could also work. Stay tuned!... 4/5/2014 WELL! After testing the different machines and attachments I have to conclude that it is actually more efficient pounding tyres the old fashioned way than using recipro-rammers. It seems that even though the strokes are much more rapid with the machine it lacks the force needed to compact that material into the sidewalls of the tyres. Most of the dirt was a...
