custom van storage fit out

Image
Owning a van myself, I know how important it is to make the most of available space and I had this in mind when I designed and built my own custom storage for all of the tools and equipment I need on a daily basis. When I was asked to fit out a van for a local pool maintenance company in Dural, I jumped at the chance because I really enjoyed doing it for myself! This job was a bit different though on two main points: (1)  My client didn't want any extra holes in the body of the van, (I drilled numerous holes in my old van to hang things and fasten shelving). (2)  All of the fittings had to be a mix of stainless steel, aluminium and galvanized steel, (carrying chlorine and salt on board will rust normal steel at an alarming rate!) I used aluminium 30mm x 30mm x 3.5mm 90 degree L channel to make a frame that would support all the 17mm ply I would be using as the bench and doors. Stainless steel piano hinge can be bought by the metre in some hardware stores a...

Damaged roof tiles

Image
Storm damage, falling branches, people walking on the roof... all these causes and more can crack roof tiles and allow water into the ceiling cavity when it rains. Having some spare tiles on hand is always good, but what if you don't have any? Bitumen rubber paint, sika flex or good quality roof and gutter silicone can be used to join the tile back together with very good results if there aren't any spare tiles to be had. More often than not it is the bottom corners that crack and fall away, it may look harmless but this small piece of missing tile can let in a lot of water. Sometimes it can take years for the signs of water leaking into the roof space to become visible especially if there is insulation to soak up the water before coming into contact with the plasterboard ceiling. But don't worry... Assured Handyman is here to help! I can repair or replace your cracked, chipped or broken roof tiles and I can have a look at the ceiling while I'm...

ROOF TURBINES

Image
Roof turbines or whirlybirds are great for enhancing the natural convection that happens in a roof space where there is a vented area under the eaves or facia boards and somewhere at the top of the roof for the cooler air to escape. Having this cooler air pass through the roof space or attic dramatically reduces hot air from being trapped inside the roof and also helps to provide much needed ventilation in winter or on those days we have so often here in Sydney when the humidity is very high. Having stack ventilation or buoyancy ventilation operating up above the ceiling helps to reduce mould forming on the underside of the ceiling and on walls, especially in places like bathrooms where there is a lot of steam from showering or in laundries where there may be an unvented clothes dryer operating. If you would like to add a whirlybird or two to your home then give Assured Handyman a call and, once installed you can start having a cooler home in summer and a dry...

Decking oil application

Image
Timber decks look great but they do cop a lot of  weather so it is a good idea to apply some good quality decking oil at least once a year. I use a paint brush to do any edging and corners first, then  the larger area's with a good quality lambswool cover. There are many decking oils to choose from and it is essential you pick the right oil (with or without stain added) for the type of look you want. So if your timber deck is looking a bit tired give me a call and I can oil it for you and have it looking like new in no time! Servicing North Western Sydney, Assured Handyman 0402 595 332
